Welcome to Rowan Tree Art Therapy

A safe and supportive space promoting self care, growth, and healing through creative expression.

Rowan Tree Art Therapy is centrally located close to the heart of Brisbane’s West End on Jane Street.

I offer individual creative wellbeing sessions for children and teens and weekly group workshops for women.

I specialise in therapeutic story telling and supporting children and young people to write their own therapeutic stories.

Art Therapy

Art Therapy is an evidence based practice providing a safe and creative outlet for children, young people, and adults to work through challenges, process emotions, build confidence and resilience, relieve stress and gain new perspectives.

It can be especially useful in allowing subconscious thoughts and emotions to arise in a safe and supported space for exploration and healing.

Art skills are not necessary, as the focus is on creative process, not final product.

One on one sessions are tailored to the individual and may include various modalities for creative expression, such as water colour painting, drawing, nature based art, clay, collage, music, therapeutic story writing or story telling, play, sandtray work, and drama.

About me

Hello! My name is Timothea Thompson (Timi)

I have over 20 years of experience working with children and young people, including 8 years as a child protection Social Worker and 5 years as a Student Wellbeing Worker.

I am an accredited Art Therapist and Play Therapist with a special interest and extensive experience working with neurodivergent children and young people.

I use a strengths based, person-centred approach and specialise in therapeutic story writing and story telling.

Therapeutic stories can be a powerful, yet, gentle method of using metaphor to change a behaviour, give an alternative perspective or navigate a challenging situation. I have seen

The rowan tree represents resilience, strength and renewal

The rowan tree features in many myths and legends and holds strong symbolism that resonates with the process of art therapy. The rowan tree symbolises strength, resilience, renewal, balance, courage, connection, wisdom and protection.

It’s known as the Celtic Tree of LIfe, the Traveler’s Tree or Wayfarer’s Tree. It’s believed to help those who feel lost on their journey to find their way. It’s said to represent a reunion of self and soul through making peace with our shadows, as they are a source of wisdom, compassion, and strength.
